Essentials for your bedside tableMonday 21st July 2014 12:23pm
Twenty-first century life is anything but dull, and as each year goes by, we have more and more opportunities for communication and entertainment. But, the one thing a lot of people miss out on in this busy, fast-paced world is a good night’s sleep. Everyone knows that a lack of sleep can make you grumpy in the morning, but doctors are increasingly aware that not getting your head down for enough hours can actually affect your health. A regular lack of sleep increases your risk of some serious medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, as well as shortening your life expectancy.
Everything To Hand
One of the best ways to make sure you get your eight hours of beauty sleep is to make your bedroom a calm space, dedicated to rest. Choose colours that make you feel relaxed, and cut down on clutter, too. Most importantly, you need a perfectly equipped bedside table, so that you’re not leaping up to get something ten minutes after bedtime. Of course, you’ll want drinking water, perhaps a box of tissues and a good selection of reading material. You might like a device to play some relaxing music. However, nothing transforms the bedside space like the perfect lamp.
At Lighting Illusions, we have a fantastic range to choose from. If you like a touch of French chic in the bedroom, then I think the Perfume Clear Bottle Base Lamp looks really great with white linen on the bed and flowered cushions as a finishing touch. The Eglo Fortuna White Pleated Shade Table Lamp is so stylishly simple that it would work in any bedroom, traditional or modern. Looks are definitely important, but it’s vital that your bedside lamp allows you to read in comfort, without straining your eyes. As I wrote in a post a few weeks ago, your needs will change as time goes on, so keep checking your bedside lamp is still the right one for you.
The Light Touch
As you relax with your book and start to drift off, it’s annoying if you have to start fiddling about, looking for the switch to turn your light off, and it’s the same if you wake in the night and need to get up: we’re all a little disorientated when we first come to. We have the ideal solution in touch lamps. If you like a more traditional style in your room, then the Eglo Beluga Antique Brown Touch Table Lamp would be perfect on a polished wood table, with an elegant water carafe at the side. For the youngest members of the household, the Train Blue Laser Cut Cotton Shade Touch Table Lamp is not just a comforting light for a small child who wakes after a bad dream, it also provides a soothing glow at story time, as the family begins to wind down at the end of the day.
